“MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) –
Memphis City leaders revealed a new plan to make Beale Street a safer place. After multiple violent events in Downtown Memphis, safety on, and around, Beale Street became a top priority.
The comprehensive action plan includes the following:
1. Solicit more deputies from Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
2. Create better visibility from Memphis Police Department
3. Station security teams will be along fences and allies where entry points are being breached
4. Security teams will check IDs after 10 p.m. and remove underage people from Beale Street to prevent overcrowding
5. “Beale Street Bucks” program will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday nights and require guests to pay $10 to enter Beale Street, $7 of which will turn in to a merchant credit to be used on food, drinks, cover charges that night”
