Billy Joel celebrated New Year’s Eve by performing in front of a sold-out crowd at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Jason Bonham‘s Led Zeppelin Evening served as the Piano Man’s opening act, and Jason – the son of legendary Zeppelin drummer John Bonham – joined Joel halfway through his hits-filled set to lead his band through a cover of the Zep classic, “Whole Lotta Love.” “We’re going to bring a guest onstage and do this next song,” Joel announced to the audience. “We have fun playing this, especially with this guy. Please welcome Jason Bonham. You all know this song. It’s not a piano song.” Joel was content to contribute backing vocals and piano flourishes on the tune, as guitarist Tommy Byrnes recreated Jimmy Page’s crunchy guitar riffs, and backup singer Mike DelGuidice reproduced Robert Plant’s soaring vocals, all while Bonham’s thunderous rhythms led the way. Joel later performed “Auld Lang Syne” as the clock moved towards midnight, with his wife, Alexis Roderick, sitting right by his side. (Rolling Stone)
